Results:
Charlton Rovers 0 - 0 Slimbridge Crusaders
Rovers started slowly with a new defensive line up taking a while to get used to their new positions. The Slimbridge right wing put in numerous crosses which Rovers defended well, with neither team having any good chances on goal.
Charlton Rovers 1 - 0 St Nicholas Blues
A good win for Rovers, with a more robust defense holding out against numerous St Nicholas attacks. Andrew made a number of heroic point blank saves and Rovers may have been lucky when the ball appeared to cross the Rovers goal line, but the referee waved play on. At the other end Ronan went close from a goal kick and from a good cross from Jack, and Ollie had a good header which went wide. After a good passing move involving Ollie, James and Jack, Nat finished with a first time shot into the goal, to net his first goal for Rovers. A well deserved win.
Charlton Rovers 0 - 3 Yate United A
Yate proved to be a good passing side and always threatened to score. However, Rovers held out well until midway through the match when the referee awarded a dubious penalty after a tackle by Nat. Quick passing led to two more goals before the Rovers players regained their composure. Ollie then made an excellent run, beating three Yate players before colliding with the keeper. This tackle led to a leg injury and Ollie had to be replaced. A tough game, but the score flattered Yate!
Charlton Rovers 1 - 0 St Nicholas Reds
After a heavy loss in their previous match, Rovers bounced back well and dominated the game. Jack had two good chances, shooting wide with the first and hitting the post with the second. He made amends by dribbling past 3 defenders on the left wing to set up Ollie to score his first goal for Rovers.
Charlton Rovers 0 - 1 Fry's Club Colts
Rovers should have won this match but were lacking energy and conceded a simple goal to the only chance of the match when the defence was left exposed by a lack of tracking back by the midfield players.
Charlton Rovers 1 - 0 Cadbury Heath
Rovers needed to win this match to have any chance of finishing in the top two in their group, which would get them into the semi-finals. Rovers put on a good defensive display, with Cadbury Heath failing to create any good chances on the Rovers goal. Ronan had a good early chance on goal, with a near post shot saved by the keeper. Jack then scored with a breakaway goal to seal the win.
A good display by Rovers, with Nat and Ollie playing their first matches for Rovers and both scoring. We came equal second in our group, but failed to qualify for the semi-finals due to fewer goals scored. This was a good effort considering that many of the top North Bristol teams were at the tournament.
